Dental Care Alliance Becomes First DSO to Implement GBT Across All Supported Offices – Improving the Patient and Hygienist Experiences

Dental Care Alliance (DCA), a growing dental support organization (DSO), is leading the industry and partnering with EMS Dental to deploy Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) across its family of supported practices.

With more than 400 multidisciplinary offices across 24 states, DCA is the first large-scale DSO to systematically implement this state-of-the-art technology across its entire alliance of supported practices. GBT is proven to not only improve patient care, outcomes, and experience but also ergonomics for the hygienist providing the care.

GBT is a modern approach and solution to systematic dental biofilm management and professional prophylaxis using state-of-the-art and scientifically proven Airflow, Perioflow, and Piezon technologies.

Using leading treatment protocols based on individual patient diagnosis and risk assessment, GBT advances the hygienist’s ability to achieve optimal results for every individual. The treatment is provided in the least invasive way with the highest level of comfort, safety, and efficiency.

The goal of GBT is to remove all oral biofilm, which are groups of bacteria and other organisms throughout the mouth, including on teeth, tongues, cheeks, and gums.

Biofilm is the main etiologic factor – causing or contributing to the development of caries – the leading cause of periodontal and peri-implant infections. Periodontitis increases the risk of chronic conditions such as cardiovascular and respiratory disease, arthritis, or diabetes. Regular oral hygiene combined with routine dental visits keeps biofilm under control for better oral-systemic health.  Biofilm is often invisible to the naked eye. Disclosing biofilm helps to make biofilm visible.

GBT prevents dental caries and gum disease in children and adults. Dental caries is a prevalent chronic infectious disease resulting from tooth-adherent cariogenic bacteria that metabolize sugars to produce acid, which, over time, demineralizes tooth structure.*

No biofilm = No caries.

The eight steps of guided biofilm therapy are:

  1. Assessment and Infection Control. Assess every clinical case and implement hygiene measures.
  2. Disclose. Make biofilm visible.
  3. Motivate. Raise awareness and teach.
  4. AIRFLOW® Max. Remove biofilm, stains, and early calculus.
  5. Perioflow®. Remove biofilm in >4 to 9 mm pockets.
  6. Piezon® PS. Remove the remaining calculus.
  7. Check. Make your patient smile.
  8. Recall. Healthy patient = happy patient.

Dental professionals enjoy the ergonomic benefit of using the AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master to provide Guided Biofilm Therapy to patients. The absence of vibration reduces muscle activity to control the handpiece. Using Airflow, clinicians can provide a minimally invasive procedure to remove biofilm in an ergonomically advantageous manner. Hygienists are at a higher risk for repetitive stress injuries due to the nature of their work. GBT reduces stress that can negatively impact the clinician’s posture. The weight comparison between the EMS airflow cord and the Contra angle handpiece cord is significantly lighter when using airflow.
