More than 50 dental offices collected candy after Halloween for military troops serving overseas.
SARASOTA, FL (December 5, 2016) – Thousands of troops serving overseas got a sweet surprise from Dental Care Alliance (DCA). More than 50 dental offices in the North East region of DCA collected 4,454 pounds of candy after Halloween to ship to the troops as part of Operation Gratitude.
Team members at Dental Care Alliance-affiliated offices in Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia partnered with their patients and local community groups to collect the candy. Dental Solutions, Garden State Dental, Baystate Dental, Family Dental Group, Dental Associates of Northern Virginia and Gentle Dental were just some of the offices participating this year. Altogether, they’ve donated more than 12,000 pounds of candy since the offices began participating in the non-profit program in 2013.
In addition to providing American troops with a taste of home, the candy collection serves another purpose. It helps reduce the amount of candy being consumed by children in the days after Halloween. It’s a win-win-win. The children are happy to help the troops, their parents are happy to have the candy out of the house, and the troops are happy to receive the care packages.
Next year, Dental Care Alliance plans to expand their participation in the program to all 15 states that have DCA-affiliated practices.
